Mayne Pharmaceutical
Mayne Pharmaceutical
Mayne
Pharma Limited is focused on the development, manufacture, sale and
distribution of medicines used by oncologists. The company is listed on the
Australian Stock Exchange under the code MYP.
Mayne
Pharmas product portfolio has been built on world class process
development capabilities in the two families of drugs that are commonly used in
the treatment of cancer today: taxanes and platinum derivatives. The company
has also expanded from its origins in generic chemotherapy medicines to related
therapeutic drugs used by oncologists in the treatment of cancer such as
antibiotics and pain management.
On the back of this expertise, Mayne
Pharma has expanded from Australia so that it now distributes its products in
more than 65 countries around the world. It has established strong commercial
footholds especially in Europe and Asia Pacific. In North America, Mayne Pharma
is the second largest supplier of generic, injectable oncology medicines in
Canada and the company has a small and developing position in the United States
that provides future opportunity to grow.
Mayne Pharma has increased
its sales revenues significantly in the last three years on the back of
acquisitions and internal growth. Pro-forma sales in its 2005 financial year
were A$687 million up approximately 35% on the prior year.
In November
2005, Mayne Pharma was demerged from Mayne Group Limited so the business could
focus on its core competencies and have increased flexibility to implement
appropriate strategies and a capital structure that would help facilitate its
continued success.
02/02/07: Hospira
www.hospira.com has announced that it has
completed the acquisition of Mayne Pharma, in the process creating the world's
leading firm in speciality generic injectible pharmaceuticals. According to the
terms of the transaction, the total value for the acquisition is AUD$2.6
billion (1.02 billion pounds), equating to an offer of AUD$4.10 per share to
shareholders in Mayne Pharma. Following this acquisition, Hospira is
implementing a new structure of leadership in order to establish a robust basis
for growth in the future, augment its connection with customers and promote a
stronger global perspective. To these ends, the company has appointed three
regional presidents, two presidents focused on long-term growth and a corporate
vice president of global strategy and business development. Christopher B
Begley, chief executive officer of Hospira, said: "We are excited and confident
about the growth opportunities this acquisition presents for all of our
stakeholders." He added that the increased size of the company would enable it
to reduce the overall costs of healthcare, resulting in an improvement in the
financial strength of the healthcare system worldwide and enhanced
affordability of care for patients. The Supreme Court of Victoria approved the
scheme for the transaction of Mayne Pharma by a subsidiary of Hospira earlier
this month. \
