AstraZeneca was formed on 6 April 1999 through the merger of Astra AB of Sweden and Zeneca Group PLC of the UK – two companies with similar science-based cultures and a shared vision of the pharmaceutical industry.

There's a great deal to explore at AstraZeneca. Astra Zeneca have research and manufacturing sites in more than 25 countries, sales in over 100 and an annual turnover in excess of $21 billion. Astra Zeneca have a 64,000 strong team works across international and technical boundaries to create innovative treatments for some of the most significant and serious medical conditions.

In recent years, Astra Zeneca has had breakthroughs in all their key therapy areas including high-potential therapies for cancer, gastrointestinal disease, asthma, hypertension, high cholesterol, migraine and schizophrenia. Each of these new drugs was not only a remarkable scientific, commercial and professional achievement it was also an event that profoundly impacted on patient's quality of life.

The future looks set to be just as exciting. Every year Astra Zeneca spend $3.8 billion on researching new medicines, a level of investment that has given them one of the strongest product pipelines in the pharmaceutical industry. As new technology revolutionises the drug discovery, development and delivery process, the next few years will see a new era of growth, change and opportunity right across the Astra Zeneca business.
